The Best Backing TracksGood quality backing tracks for guitar can turn your practice sessions into full blown jams, and really give you the freedom to expand your playing… and have more fun doing it. If you’re anything like me, it’s easy to fall into the same old ruts and tired riffs when you’re playing solo.

But every time I fire up a backing track, it feels like I’m playing with the band again… except it doesn’t smell as bad :-)

The question I get asked alot… Is it any good?

I can attest that these tracks are really on the level.

I came across 50 Blues a few months ago, and I’ve really been impressed with their stuff. This was created a few years ago by Zack Roberts, a professional guitarist from New Jersey (home of Bruce Springsteen & Bon Jovi). Zack basically got a top-flight professional blues band in the studio to cut 50 professional tracks for you to play along with… this is not cheesy midi stuff, thank God.

I won’t go into too many details because Zack is always adding to the program, so you can check it out on your own to see the latest bonuses he’s giving away.

UPDATE: Check out all the new bonuses that have been added for 2010:

This collection of backing tracks is diverse, too. It dives into:

  • 12 Bar Blues Grooves
  • Blues Slow Ballads
  • Jazzy Blues Shuffles
  • Cajun Blues
  • Blues In G Pentatonic, and many other scales

Zack has a Bachelor Degree from Berklee College of Music, and has been a regular contributor to Guitar Player, Guitar World and Acoustic Guitar Magazines, so he put this together with the idea of improving your playing. A funny thing happens, too, when you improvise more and more over these tracks. Your chops just naturally get stronger, and then when it comes time to play onstage, watch out! It’s like you’ve been playing with the band all along, and your skills will be better than you would have imagined.

The thing I like about 50 blues is the high quality, wide variety, and very musical sound and arrangement of the tracks. Zack has gone above and beyond to make sure you feel like you’re playing in the same room with a kick @ss blues band.

Unlike some free backing tracks that have poor production, the blues tracks on 50 Blues are very professional played, mixed, and produced.

I’ve been very happy with these backing tracks for guitar, and I hope you can use them to take your guitar playing to the next level too.
