The Epiphone Les Paul Custom – All Dressed Up

The Epiphone Les Paul Custom is all dressed up.

You got the block inlays on the rosewood fingerboard.

You got the classy pickguard.

And yeah, you got the Gold Hardware.

It all adds up to a pretty sharp axe, which makes it one of the more pricey Epiphone Les Pauls. Obviously modeled after the Gibson Les Paul Custom, this China-made version is a great alternative for about 700 bucks.

My Epiphone Les Paul Custom Review

This is a well made guitar with a great sound, especially at this price.

It’s got a glued in set neck, and the sustain is great. The pickups left a little to be desired here, I found them to be a little “middy” for my taste. Epiphone Les Pauls tend to be a little peaky in the mid-range… more so than a Gibson.

The good thing about an Epiphone Les Paul is that you’re free to swap out the pickups or other hardware without fear of damaging the value. I wouldn’t try that on a Gibson :-)

The Custom sounds beautiful clean, and warms up nicely for distorted tones. The stock pickups produce a mellow tone clean o dirty.

The finish on this guitar is beautiful. The Customs come in Alpine White, Ebony, and Wine Red. My favorite is the Ebony with gold hardware… sharp!

Overall? I like this guitar because it has some very nice accouterments (I had to use that word) that make it feel like a more expensive guitar. If you can’t quite make the reach for a Gibson, this is a great alternative.
