The Epiphone Les Paul Studio – Easy on the Eye, Easier on the Wallet
Yeah, everyone’s feeling a little recession pain these days…
Put bluntly, the Epiphone Les Paul Studio is a great guitar for the non-professional or beginner. If you are a beginner some of the finer nuances of the Gibson Les Paul might not even impress you, so you can save your money. You may know from reading GGH that the quality of hardware and craftsmanship is way different between the Gibson and Epiphone brands, but this is still a solid guitar.
You can buy this guitar NEW for $300, and one of the ways Epiphone was able to get the pricing so low was by getting rid of all the “cosmetics.” You won’t get any figured maple top or binding or anything fancy, but if you’re getting started this is a great option.
You can pick this axe up in a few different finishes: plain wood, “goth” (black), the “chameleon” color, sunburst, or a few other standard colors.
My Personal Epiphone Les Paul Studio Review
Understanding that this is a freakin’ $300 guitar helps keep things in perspective. People who are disappointed that this doesn’t compare to a Gibson are crazy, this is an entry-level guitar guys! That said, the workmanship on the Epi Les Paul Studios I’ve played was decent, and you still get hot open-coil Alnico Classic humbuckers, a set mahogany neck, rosewood fingerboard, and mahogany body with carved top… pretty sweet feature set for this price.
Another great reason for picking up this axe is as a backup. If you usually gig with a real Les Paul, spending $300 on a solid backup is not a bad idea.
