My take on Gibson Guitar Dealers.
I’ve spent thousands and thousands of dollars on Gibsons over the years. I’ve bought ‘em from pawnshops, eBay, online retailers, Craigslist, Guitar Center, you name it. I’ve learned a few things along the way, and I wanted to share that information here.
I put this together as a resource for you if you’re researching where and how to buy a Gibson.
Buying New Gibsons from Gibson Guitar Dealers
Having gone through plenty of trial and error over the years, I’ve found the best way to buy new Gibson guitars is online.
Why do I like online Gibson Guitar Dealers?
- You get free shipping, so you don’t have to drive anywhere.
- You get good prices, because you’re not paying for all the showroom overhead.
- You get a money back guarantee if you don’t like the guitar.
- You can get a payment plan without a credit card!
My highest recommendation (based on years of trial & error) is American Musical Supply. These guys have delivered a ton of quality Gibsons and other gear to me, and I’ve never had an issue with them. In fact, I’ve got nothing but good things to say… I wish I felt that way about other businesses in my life (phone company, credit card company, etc. arrgh!)
My favorite part of dealing with AMS is that they have an easy payment plan: no credit card, no interest, no bs. What they do is simply split up your payments over 3 months (or 5 months if you spend over $1000). This is so cool because it means you only need to come up with $360 to buy an $1,800 Les Paul! Then you just make 4 more payments of $360 and it’s done. You own a Les Paul!
This is particularly good if you’re going to be gigging: you know you’ll be making money, but you don’t want to spend all that cash upfront.
They also have a 45 Day Return Policy, and it really works!
About 4 years ago I ordered a Les Paul Studio, and for some reason I just didn’t like it. I mean, it played great and everything, but it just didn’tspeak to me.
Guess what? I sent it back! And I didn’t end up paying a dime Now, I don’t like to abuse this, but it’s nice to know you have options if you just don’t care for a guitar.
Buying Used Gibson Guitars
Please research the guitar you want before hand, make sure you know how to spot fake Gibson guitars, and read some reviews to make sure you’re getting the guitar you want.
eBay is a great place to find used or Vintage Gibson electric guitars (or acoustic guitars), and because they’re so huge you get sellers from all over the world and thus a better chance of finding a rare guitar.
I hope this has helped you make a more informed buying decision. Remember to buy the best guitar you can afford, you’re gonna have it for a long time!
