If you play guitar and you have an Internet connection, you’ve probably heard of GuitarTricks.com

I had a lot of fun checking out the site before I wrote this Guitar Tricks review, but what I’d like to do is provide an unbiased, complete review of the product so you can make the best decision for yourself.

Cost: $14.95 per month membership

Skill Level: Absolute beginner to Expert

Overall Organization: Good. I felt a little overwhelmed with all the content, but it is well organized and there is something for everyone.

Quality of Content: Excellent. These videos are the best you could ask for in guitar instruction.

Ease of Use: Very good. First you click on the course you want (ie – Blues Style Level 1) and then you get a table of contents that contains dozens of videos, tab, and MP3s.

Use of Audio / Visual: Excellent. Guitar Tricks does a fantastic job of combining high-quality videos with text and tablature for each lesson. I cannot stress enough how nice it is to have a pro guitar teacher literally talking to you and walking you through all the lessons. It’s like a guitar teacher, but you have dozens of them 24*7*365

Technical Support: Comprehensive. they have a Video User Manual, Login Troubleshooting Guide, General Troubleshooting Guide, and if all else fails they also offer email support.

Guarantee: monthly subscription, cancel anytime

UPDATE for 2010: The folks at GuitarTricks have recently added:

- Officially Licensed Song Lessons (learn your favorite tunes)
- Blues Level 1 & 2 Full Courses
- Country Level 1 & 2 Full Courses
- Rock Level 1 & 2 Full Courses

My Thoughts: I’d seen ads for Guitar Tricks for quite some time, but it wasn’t until September of 2009 that I actually got myself a membership and checked it out. To be quite honest I felt like I’d been living under a rock… how had a missed this? I am so jealous of the kids today that have these kind of resources available. I had to learn the old fashioned way – from tabs and friends that were just as bad as me :-)  Guitar Tricks has demonstrated their commitment to providing excellent guitar instruction on video by constantly adding great content.

Additional Comments: I’m very impressed with what GuitarTricks has to offer. It’s almost more like a TV Channel for guitarists than a website, there is that much video. I spoke with the owner GuitarTricks before I wrote this guitar Guitar Tricks review, and I wanted to include some of his comments because it speaks volumes about the quality of organization Guitar Tricks is:

“…one thing we are really proud of is our courses. These are unique in the market,
shot as a full curriculum under guidance of MIT and Berkelee educated directors.

Each course is about 100 videos fully step by step, and they work together to
step you from “how do I hold a pick?” to an intermediate level.
After that we have thousands of lessons covering a wide variety of topics.
Everything from ‘b-bender guitar’ to ‘touch tapping.’ “

My Recommendation: Highly Recommended. Suitable for absolutely any level of player. The videos make this product an especially outstanding value.
