Les Paul Guitars – What a Legacy to Leave

A little bit about Les Paul Guitars…

Just like Jennifer Anastassakis doesn’t sound the same as the Jennifer Aniston we all know and love, the namesake these guitars was born Lester William Polfuss, and was changed somewhere along the way to the more familiar Les Paul. So much for ethnic pride… welcome to the melting pot!

Names aside, the Les Paul has become one of the most enduring icons in music history.

With their beautiful carved maple top, heavy mahogany body, set neck, and humbucking pickups, these axes have literally set the standard for what a solid body guitar should be. There have been many variations in the past 50+ years, but the winning recipe has largely stayed the same.

Given all the massive changes in technology in the last half century, it’s amazing to think how very little these guitars have changed.

Gibson has been wise to heed these words: ”if it ain’t broke, don’t fix it!”

There have been quite a few variations on this guitar, as you can see. The core design has remained pretty much the same though: 3 way toggle switch, a pair of humbuckers, set neck, mahogany body with maple top.
